They are short, complete, stand alone stories. I thought I loved last years Christmas story but this one was even better. The author tweaks the PP universe for each story. In this one Darcy didn't return to Hertfordshire and Bingley didn't ask him to stand up at his wedding. Darcy retreats to Pemberley to attempt to recover from another disappointment at love. Then his world begins to crumble, there are crop failures, a devastation at the home farm, a fire and his investments are total losses. Mr. Darcy of Pemberley is destitute and friendless. Further, his pride is preventing him for asking for help.Georgiana takes matters into her own hands and writes to friends and family and asks them to come to Pemberley. The book is chock full of goodness, kindness, and forgiving. We learn that in this universe Wickham was not always bad it was the death of his father that caused him to fall into drink and wild behavior. This is a story of friendship and redemption. and I loved it.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.A sweet novella in the Christmas spirit.By Erika L HoemkeThis is a short but sweet novella that takes place after Jane weds Mr Bingley, after Lydia and Mr Wickham's elopement. Mr Darcy has become estranged from Mr Bingley and therefore does not attend his wedding. Elizabeth is devastated that he doesn't come, and thinks that the debacle of the Wickhams wedding has finally put Mr Darcy far away from her.Elizabeth is visiting Mrs Collins again in Hunsford and was there when a missive from Georgiana reaches Anne de Bourgh. In the missive, Georgiana relates the troubles that have come to the Darcys recently and telling how down Mr Darcy is. Anne confides in Elizabeth, and she plots to return them to each other's side. This story takes on a different tone and allows us to see how Mr Darcy's family and friends react to his "diminished" circumstances. It shows who is truly his friend and family versus those who are there for his prestige and place in society. It is an eye opener, but one that had been building up since that fateful day in Hunsford in the Spring. Some reviewers say they enjoyed it but it was a bit mushy at the end, I can see where that are coming from but I thought is fit the story. I would recommend this to any JAFFer who wants to enjoy a sweet story with no angst and some good old Christmas spirit.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.Devil's in the DetailsBy Bonnie315What might have been an interesting premise was ruined for me by the author's lack of understanding of the source of Darcy's wealth (either that or she deliberately bent the facts to fit the plot around them). Darcy's "ten thousand a year" came from the land (tenants). The "very likely more" referred to by Mrs. Bennet might have been risky investments, but more likely included at least some money invested safely in the "funds." Even if Darcy's investments had failed, and the income from Pemberley reduced by half owing to a poor economy, Darcy was still as rich as Bingley, and "very likely more." Somehow I was unable to suspend disbelief to make this read as plausible. And Wickham's reformation may have fit the Christmas theme but was no fun at all. There was no real conflict or suspense in this story, and the restoration of Darcy's wealth comes as no real surprise. I gave it three stars because the writing is a notch above many of these JA variations.See all 14 customer reviews... Biltmore Stay on Biltmore Estate.
