The writing quality is phenomenal.I've never seen a story like this. I'm a writer myself, so I'm a judgemental jerk sometimes and will set down books if I don't like them enough. I'm also usually not a fan of Wonderland spin-offs. Like zombie apocalypses and vampire romances, most of them have been trite, overdone, and poor excuses for failing to do your own worldbuilding. However, I tip my hat to the authors. Hatter Madigan is Dickens-quality soul-searching made magical and modern.Frank confronts serious issues in real life without being the slightest bit preachy. I loved this more than Harry Potter, more than Redwall. Frank and Adrienne's writing is up there with Brandon Sanderson in terms of originality, understanding of humanity, quality of humor, character development that leaves me wanting to be a better human... all set in a gut-wrenchingly stunning world that holds its own against Mistborn and The Way of Kings. And Frank, I DIED laughing at Bill the Lizard. ^_^ "What in the...! Oh, for silk's sake!" Yeah, best entrance into the bad guy's lair EVER.Finally (SPOILER) - Thank you for the real-life confrontation with the brother at the end. THAT is the real-life homecoming heroes usually get. Being a hero takes courage to change how you were raised. So, often when you come home, rather than getting embraced, you get chastised. I've had this happen to me after I made enormous sacrifices trying to be a better person, and it meant the world to see that painful dilemma honored for what it truly is. In some ways, that's the hardest part of the journey, and I've never, NEVER seen it brought up at the end of a story before. Thank you.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.Another hitBy CustomerI have known Frank for some time and was able to score an ARC from him at Phoenix Comicon Fan Fest recently.I am a huge fan of anything Alice in Wonderland and fell in love with the Looking Glass Wars saga. I have also read all of the Hatter Madigan graphic novels. So, I was very excited to learn he had written the first of the prequels into the world of Hatter Madigan. For those that have not previously read any of the earlier books, this Wonderland uses imagination as theWithout too many spoilers, this book begins as Hatter enters his first year at the Millinery, the school that trains future Milliners (spies, royal guards, RD). We spend a short time at the beginning learning that his Milliner parents had disappeared years earlier leaving Hatter and his brother to be raised at the school. In many ways this book reminds me of the first Harry Potter as he enters the school and begins meeting his classmates and instructors while being introduced to the basics of what it will take to become a Milliner. The story follows Hatter, his friends and enemies through a series of classroom events and mini adventures as they unravel the secrets to a new device used in their training – The H.A.T.B.O.X.Overall, this is a very good story and I am sure the series will continue to be successful.See all 15 customer reviews... hell- o visitor on the playerclan site we are the original player clan.
